My Stay at St. Regis Downtown Dubai
In December 2021, I went with my wife to the Formula 1 final in Abu Dhabi. It was a fantastic trip that I enjoyed a lot. Even though we stayed in Abu Dhabi, we still flew in and out of Dubai (DXB). My wife had never been to Dubai so she wanted to at least get a glimpse of the city while passing it by. Therefore we decided to stay 2 days, 1 night, in Dubai on our way home.
The St. Regis Downtown Dubai had just opened in October and I thought it would be a great opportunity to try it out! So this is my experience with the St. Regis Downtown Dubai.
About St. Regis Downtown Dubai
The St. Regis Downtown Dubai is a luxury hotel located in the heart of the city’s financial district.
With its prime location and opulent amenities, this hotel offers guests the ultimate comfort and style. From its elegant guest rooms to its world-class dining and spa options, the St. Regis Downtown Dubai is the perfect choice for travelers seeking the very best in luxury accommodations.
Whether you’re in town for business or pleasure, this hotel is sure to impress.
Booking the room
Having stayed in Dubai several times before I wanted to try something new. I also knew that we wanted to stay very central since we only had 2 days. As usual, I searched for a good place in the Marriott app and found St. Regis Downtown.
I did the booking directly through the Marriott website. Since I know that we weren’t going to spend much time in the room I went with the Superior Room. This is the smallest option at this hotel. However, as I’ll talk about later, the rooms are still large in general.
For the Superior Room, I paid 1,440 AED, roughly $400. The stay earned me 3199 points with Marriott Bonvoy.
Checking in
We arrived mid-day in a taxi from Abu Dhabi. The lobby was not particularly busy and the staff was helpful from the start. The checking area consists of 3 checking desks where you are assisted while seated. After a hectic weekend, this felt nice. The woman checking us in was friendly and helpful. Everything when smoothly, as to be expected.
They had the option to use your iPhone as the room key. I’ve never tried it before so I decided to do so. However, I just found it to be a hassle and ended up using the keycard.
Room
Our room was on the 8th floor and was very spacious. Spacious rooms are common in Dubai but this was even bigger than more other rooms I’ve stayed at in this range.
The rooms either have a view over the business bay or the city center. Our room faced the city center and Burj Khalifa. However, since the plot just over the street had construction going the view wasn’t very impressive. When the construction is finished I’m not even sure you’ll be able to see much of the city center or Burj Khalifa.
Hotel facilities
Fitness center
The fitness center at The St. Regis Downtown Dubai is top-notch. The facility is well-equipped with state-of-the-art cardio and weight-training equipment, as well as a variety of free weights.
The facilities are kept clean and well-maintained. Overall, the fitness center is a great addition to the hotel and is perfect for travelers who want to stay active during their stay.
Spa
Since I only stayed 1 night I did not have the time to try out the spa myself.
However, The St. Regis Downtown Dubai offers a truly unique spa experience with its luxurious St. Regis Spa.
The spa features six private suites, each designed to provide guests with the ultimate relaxation and rejuvenation. The spa offers a range of bespoke signature treatments, including 24-karat gold age-defying facials, which are designed to leave the skin looking youthful and radiant.
Additionally, the spa features a traditional Arabian Hammam, which is a type of steam bath that is known for its health and relaxation benefits.
The spa therapists are expertly trained to provide the highest level of service and are dedicated to ensuring guests have a truly memorable spa experience. The St. Regis Spa is definitely a highlight of the hotel and offers a truly unique and special spa experience that is not to be missed.
Pool
The pool is located at the back of the hotel facing the water and business bay. It’s not the biggest pool area and I’m unsure how packed it will be if the hotel is at full capacity. When I visited the place was still quite empty so we had loads of space to ourselves around and in the pool.
The pool is half inside and half outside. I liked the concept. Around the pool, you had a bar and sunbeds.
If you are going for a swim in the afternoon, the pool area offers a great view of the sunset over the business bay.
Restaurant
The St. Regis Downtown Dubai offers 5 different restaurants. I only had time to enjoy 2 of them at my stay.
The 5 restaurants at St. Regis Downtown Dubai are:
BASTA
The Library
The St. Regis Bar
TABU
HAYAL
BASTA:
The hotel’s lively Italian restaurant, Basta, is a popular spot among both hotel guests and Dubai locals. The restaurant combines elements of a Roman trattoria, a Florentine steakhouse, and a Neapolitan pizzeria to offer an extensive and delicious menu. Dining at Basta is made even more special with the stunning backdrop of the Dubai Water Canal.
The Library:
The Library is the perfect spot for an afternoon tea ritual or to grab a fresh cup of coffee and some pastries while enjoying the views of the Dubai Water Canal and skyline. The Library’s elegant atmosphere and beautiful views make it a great spot to relax and unwind.
The St. Regis Bar:
The St. Regis Bar is known for its world-class cocktail list and excellent service philosophy. The bar’s spectacular mirrored mural depicting the Arabian sky adds to the intimate and beautiful atmosphere of the bar, making it a great spot to enjoy a drink or two.
TABU:
Tabu is a high-end restaurant and lounge that serves authentic yet modern Japanese cuisine. The food is showcased and plated with an artistic finesse, making for a visually stunning dining experience. Located on the 23rd floor at The St. Regis Downtown Dubai, Business Bay, Tabu offers a beautiful view of the city.
HAYAL:
Hayal offers a modern Turkish dining experience with flavors from Istanbul. The restaurant is located on the mezzanine floor at the St. Regis Downtown and features a lush, colorful, and artsy décor. The menu offers a variety of traditional Turkish dishes as well as some modern twists on the classic flavors. Hayal is a must-visit spot for anyone looking to try some delicious Turkish cuisine.
Conclusion
Although my stay was short I really enjoyed staying here. The rooms were spacious and modern. Its location was great for being close to the city center while still offering a more relaxing view from the back of the hotel.
If you want to stay downtown in Dubai I would definitely recommend staying at The St. Regis Downtown.
