So if you are doing exercises where you move around alos or need the flexibility, like squats for example, you might not be as comfortable in swim trunks.
Depending on if you have inner mesh lining or underwear, biking running can also might not be ideal in swim trunks. All runners and cyclists know that you need truly comfortable underwear when doing either biking or running. Swim trunks are not made with these exercises in mind and therefore might not be as comfortable.
These are two examples of then swim trunks might not be a good choice when working out. However, if you are just working out and doing biceps curls in between beach sessions you are most likely just as comfortable in your swim trunks as in any other activewear.
